As part of its efforts to improve security of places of worship and faith communities, EFI is committed to conducting research to provide a thorough understanding of the issues and challenges facing faith communities, and to identify appropriate solutions. EFI uses its expert team and on-ground reach to conduct research on the situation of faith communities in Europe.

Incidents Against Places of Worship in the EU

EFI has been conducting research on incidents against places of worship in the European Union. The report from the study, Safe to worship in Europe? Incidents against places of worship in the European Union, will be published in the new year.

The report is the outcome of a study conducted by EFI to assess incidents against places of worship in the EU between June 2021 and May 2022.

The aim of the study is to present policy makers and stakeholders with an accurate picture of the situation with regard to incidents against places of worship, raise awareness of these, and help ensure more effective interventions to combat such incidents.

The study covers all 27 EU member states, and looks at incidents between June 2021 and May 2022. It draws on secondary sources, notably media reports and government websites. As well as assessing incidents by country, the data will also be disaggregated by religion and type of incident.

It is hoped that the detailed data to be presented in the report will provide extremely useful insights for policy-makers. The report will also include recommendations for faith communities and for government agencies/policy-makers.
