EFI team were privileged to be invited by the Belgium Cricket Board to attend the #CricketVlaanderen tournament finals day at Antwerp Cricket Club on 24th September 2023. It was an incredible experience to see the best cricket clubs in Belgium facing off from different backgrounds and cultures, playing exciting cricket with full crowds present to enjoy a full day of fun cricket and community gatherings.
The Antwerp Cricket Club is the oldest cricket club in Belgium, having been established in 1869. It is a friendly and welcoming club, and the tournament was a great opportunity to witness the passion for cricket in the Vlaanderen.
The tournament was a great success, with the audience representing different communities across Vlaanderen and from all ages. There was facilities and cricket nets/training for the youth who were also present in large numbers practicing and enjoying the day. The finals day was excellently organised and the cricket on display was of the highest quality. We had the chance to meet and discuss cricket in Belgium and Europe with key figures at the Belgium cricket association and regional associations, with many important figures in Belgian cricket, as well as the Mayor of Antwerp. It was important to meet the individuals who are passionate about growing the sport in Vlaanderen/Belgium and looking at plans to support the development and share best practices and plans in 2024.
The tournament was a great success and it was an honour to be part of it. It was a great opportunity to meet some of the key people in the Belgian cricket and to experience the atmosphere created by the diverse cricket clubs and communities present.
